Some background on the subject: The woman is Salome, the biblical figure who was the seductive daughter of King Herod. She was commanded to bring John the Baptist to her father, who beheaded him. The head in the painting is that of John the Baptist. "Acéphale" actually means "headless;" just some fruit for thought.
