www.imdb.com/title/tt1691920/I Melt with You (2011) On the surface this seems like a classic mid-life-crisis-one-last-party-oh-shit-what-now type of deal, unfortunately, in many ways they even seemed to try and market the film in this manner. Considering the clear existence of a deeper meaning, standard audiences' reactions could have probably been predicted, boo to eh. Unfortunately, the targeted audience, for the most part are not the people this movie is really for (I don't give a damn about ending sentences with certain randomized constructuralized types of words or not). The final choice of the Thomas Jane character is the same as Bataille at the summit and Nietzsche at the edge of the abyss in both a very metaphorical and actual way, speaking sociologically/philosophically at least. If the viewer misses that point the entire mood of the film is changed to "what a depressing mess" from a "right on" type of film. That's all I will say there. This is easily on my top 5 all time favorite list. At least with the interpretation based on not missing the point anyway, otherwise its just fucking depressing lol. I prefer to focus on the strength and resilience of pride until the end labelled as bitter only by those who did not experience it.
