I hadn't heard of David Sylvian before. I've never been as into the whole (this may sound quite ign'ant) 80's synth-pop-esque sound as I probably should be, but I like this song's sort of stilted slant on the genre. The mumbly piano chords throughout, his own sort of mumbling of the lyrics through a trailing voice, set against the synth-y beats, all with the vaguely New wave feel of the video. Definitely makes for something I like.
I have heard of Japan before, and I've actually been meaning to give them a listen. That softly bellowing synth sound throughout very much reminds me of Roedelius (a song of whose I've posted, actually, if you're interested), the instrumentation as a whole does, actually. I always feel that ambient genres in general are so much more genuinely expressive than most other music. I love just meandering along the songs, feeling vague things. I'm glad you introduced me to them.
